U12 Boys - Oxfordshire League V Wallingford U12 "B"
Our 7-game winning streak ended today with a hard fought game at home to Wallingford "B" losing 2-3.
We lacked the zip shown in our previous games and also struggled to break down a tricky Wallingford team who were well drilled, ready to play and had a good keeper.
We went into the final quarter 0-2, but in the last 5 minutes we turned in a goal from open play (via Ben and Charlie) and thumped in to the goal by Olly. We then woke up and ran again at Wallingford forcing Wallingford into making a save on the line with a foot - Cue the award of a PS which Charlie converted (image from Nina Chadbone - thanks for other images too as I forgot). We pushed Wallingford further, and I lost count of the number of PCs we were awarded but could not convert either directly or on the rebound.Very frustrating to watch!
With the last strike of the game, and only registering ~5 shots on goal all game, Wallingford ran up the pitch and took a reverse hit which flawed our defense and keeper to steal the points.
We used all 10 players today but all had a good life lesson in hockey, showing good character and claw back from 0-2.
We will be working on: Improving our efforts from PC rebounds, defending (still a lot of diving in too quickly) and ball speed in open play. We will also work on closing out a game - we must play until the final whistle goes.
Thanks to Robert Broadhurst for umpiring our game and to the parents for supporting their kids as well.
