Thame HC Men’s 2 XI played a rearranged fixture against Windsor HC 2XI on Saturday, after a hard fought and entertaining game in front of a well packed Thame HC crowd the match ended 3-1 to the visitors.
Windsor HC made a quick start applying early pressure with some fast attacking play pulling some early good saves from Barney and testing a Thame resolve. Thame progressively built into the game and through some strong interplay between Freddy and Kit in the midfield the forward line began to look threatening. Unfortunately Windsor finally struck after some continued pressure.
The second half saw further strong hockey played from both sides, with Devon Mulford scoring an excellent reverse stick strike to even the score. End to end play ensued in a frantic manner with Barney who earned a man of the match for his exploits pulling off a string of outstanding saves (as he has been doing all season) to keep Thame in the match.
Unfortunately Windsor were just too strong and netted again to take the lead. Thame pushed hard with Freddy, Kit, Ali, Jonnny and James Tyrell rotating through the midfield and generating some wonderful link play and Tom Cresswell, Harry Chisholm, Devon Mulford and Adam Rathband all making positive runs but alas to no avail. An unlucky final goal in the dying seconds coming from Thame attempting to push up the pitch rapidly left a final score of 3-1 to Windsor. Unlucky for the lads who came up against a strong Windsor outfit.
Man of the match Barney for his excellent keeping antics.
DOTD James Tyrrell for a wonderful squarial and telling the bench he can’t feel his fingers at one moment but don’t worry as it’s ok.
