The 1XI continued their push towards the top of the league as they took on Eastcote under lights at the Nest. They started strongly as a turnover off the oppositions 16 turned into a tap in at the back post for Isaac Laws as the front three linked up neatly. Thame remained on top for the remainder of the first half and were rewarded with two more goals from one of the unlikeliest of scorers, Mr. Peter Oxlade. Two short corners saw the ball fall twice to Pete who, following a save, tuck the ball into the back of the net, the second quite delightfully off an upright reverse. Halftime and 3-0, the conversation was positive and the decision was made to keep playing the same style of hockey.
Immediately after this conversation Thame decided to ignore this and for the first 15 minutes of the second half they played some scrappy hockey which allowed Eastcote to get a goal back following a drag flick into the top right, fair play. Mullins in goal saved multiple short corners in this period and kept Thame in the game during their 15 minute lapse in concentration. However, the 4th goal came with Isaac Laws getting his second following some slick play down the right saw Thame go the length of the pitch in quick time allowing Isaac to tuck it into an empty goal following selfless play by Dave Garghan. Two more goals followed in the last 10 minutes with Aidan Benger getting on the scoresheet following a ball played into the D and a deflection by Aidan he knew little about whilst Adam Sims tapped in the final goal at the back post with a couple minutes to go.
An important win that keeps the pressure on the top two as Thame sit third but still plenty of things to work on before an away day at Henley next week.
