The men’s 1s made the trek over to Wokingham with only 12 players to take on a South Berks team who had a made a strong start only losing once so far this season. Following last weeks defeat there was a clear desire in the team to bounce back and play some better hockey. The game was initially open with Chris Mullins in goal keeping us in the game but we grew into the match and started to take control with the transfer working effectively. We went 1-0 up halfway through the half following a spectacular ball from Aidan Benger picked out Dave Garghan in the D who finished well. The score remained 1-0 until halftime despite several chances, including one to Adam Sims that looked easier to score than miss!
A positive team talk at halftime saw us go out and really take control of the game. A short corner early in the second half saw Isaac Laws bury a drag flick into the side netting. Two almost identical goals quickly followed with both Dave and Isaac both getting their second with tap ins on the back post after balls fired across the D. Isaac had an opportunity for his hat-trick but decided to kick the ball when 1-on-1 with the keeper but did make up for it when he slotted in a deflection on his reverse to seal his hat-trick. Isaac’s fourth goal soon followed when 1-on-1 with the keeper he decided to stylishly flick the ball over the keepers shoulder rather than just kick it.
A fantastic result and brilliant performance by everyone across the park. 18 points and +28 goal difference after 7 games is a great start to the season.
MoM - Isaac: Despite some questionable moments his finishing was class, 4 goals can’t be ignored really, he had a great game all over the pitch.
DoD - Andy Hazlewood: for some reason he decided to slap the ball off the pitch when in acres of space for reasons known only to God. Isaac nearly secured the double for wearing his shorts back to front all game but narrowly avoided it.
